Kijana ni Afya Programme

|
Kijana ni Afya (Youth is Health) The ‘Kijana ni Afya’ peer-led health education programme is a newly developed programme based on SPW’s acclaimed peer educator-led programmes. It is the result of a comprehensive review of SPW Tanzania’s programmes over 2004-2005, which gathered input from key partners at the school, community, local and national government, international development and civil society levels. Evaluations of our previous programmes showed that good knowledge of sexual reproductive health (SRH) issues amongst young people does not necessarily lead to behaviour change. Accordingly, developing strategies to communicate messages that achieve measurable behaviour change is central to Kijana ni Afya. Activities on Kijana ni Afya are implemented by three main groups: the volunteers, local partners, and SPW staff. Central to Kijana ni Afya is the development and implementation of capacity building. This enables local partners at the school and community level to play a full and ongoing role in school and community-level activities.
