Frequently Asked Questions  - Tanzanian Volunteers

Volunteers from outside Tanzania should go to www.spw.org to find out more.

Who can apply?

Volunteers with SPW Tanzania must be recent Tanzanian Form 6 leavers, with a good pass at Form 6. They must be between the ages of 19 and 28, and available for full-time work.

How can I get an application form?

You can download an application form from this website (go to Apply Now), or visit one of our programme offices and ask for an application form.

Dar es Salaam - Nakiete House, Mwenge

Iringa - Imucu Building

Mbeya - Sigara Building

Then send us the application form correctly filled in, along with the following:

a) A copy of your Form 4 certificates

b) A copy of your Form 6 certificates (if available)

c) A copy of your Form 6 leaving certificates (if available)

d) Copies of certificates for any relevant courses you have studied

e) A letter of recommendation from your Head Teacher, or a responsible person who knows you well.

When do I need to apply?

We will accept applications at any time.

When will I find out if I have been accepted as a volunteer?

We are sorry but we are not able to write to unsuccessful candidates. We will begin selection in December, when we will invite the best applicants to a selection day. If you have not received a call or letter from SPW calling you to selection by end of December we are sorry, but you have not been selected. Successful candidates from the selection day will be notified by early December.

What happens in selection days?

There will a series of discussions, and other exercises. We will be looking for volunteers who can present arguments clearly, have leadership skills, the confidence to talk before an audience and good English.

Will I have to pay for my travel to the selection day?

SPW will refund travel expenses for invited volunteers - but we will need your bus tickets.

What will happen if I can't attend a selection day?

It is very important for us to meet prospective volunteers, and to see how you work together in groups on set activities, so we ask you to do your best to attend the selection day. SPW very rarely selects volunteers who have failed to attend selection days. Please contact us early if you cannot attend a selection day so that we can try and arrange something else.

When is the programme?

The Kijana ni Afya volunteer programme 2007 will run from January to August/September. We ask volunteers to commit to the entire length of the programme. Click here for more information on the programmes.
